How long will this PC stay usable?
Hardware does not stop working — games get heavier. Each year new titles ask for more geometry, more expensive lighting and more VRAM, so a card that comfortably held 100 FPS drifts toward 60, then toward 40. Future-proofing is really a question of how much headroom you are starting with.
This tool estimates that runway. It takes your current frame rate at your resolution, applies a yearly increase in demand, and shows roughly when you would fall below playable and below comfortable.
What the score is built from
Three things dominate longevity. Raw GPU performance sets your starting frame rate. VRAM capacity sets a harder ceiling, because running out of video memory causes stutter and texture pop-in that no settings tweak fully hides. CPU strength decides whether you keep smooth frame pacing as simulation and draw-call loads grow.
The projection composes the same FPS and bottleneck models the rest of the site uses, so a card that reports a given frame rate here reports the same figure in the FPS Calculator. The annual demand growth is an assumption, not a measurement — it is shown on the chart so you can judge it yourself.

Reading the result sensibly
Treat VRAM as a cliff, not a slope
Falling slightly short on video memory does not degrade gracefully. Textures pop, frame times spike, and the fix is usually dropping texture quality a full step. If a card is marginal on VRAM today, it will age faster than its raw speed suggests.
Decide what "playable" means for you
Sixty frames in a single-player game is a comfortable target. In a competitive shooter on a high-refresh monitor it is not. Set your own threshold before reading the timeline.
Remember settings are a lever
The projection assumes broadly consistent settings. Dropping from Ultra to High typically costs very little visually and buys back a meaningful amount of headroom, which extends the useful life of a card well past the curve.

Buying far more GPU than the monitor can use
A card that pushes 200 FPS into a 60 Hz panel is not future-proofing, it is spending on frames you cannot see. Upgrade the display first if that is the mismatch.
Ignoring the processor entirely
A strong card behind a weak CPU ages badly, because CPU-bound stutter is not something you can settings-tune away as cleanly as GPU load.
This is a projection built on an assumed rate of increasing game demand, not a forecast. A single unusually heavy release, or a shift in how engines use hardware, can move real-world results significantly in either direction.

How many years should a graphics card last?
It depends entirely on your resolution and your standards. A card comfortably above your target frame rate at 1080p can stay usable for a long time, while the same card at 4K may need settings reduced within a couple of years.
Is more VRAM better than more speed?
Not automatically, but running short on VRAM causes stutter that raw speed cannot compensate for. Between two similarly fast cards, the one with more memory usually ages better.
Does lowering settings really extend a card's life?
Yes, and it is the most effective free lever you have. The step from Ultra to High is often close to invisible in motion while returning a meaningful chunk of performance.
